Dr. Poco Kernsmith comes to Wayne State University from UCLA, where she completed her doctoral degree in 2002. She earned her MSW from the University of Michigan in 1995 with a concentration on Interpersonal Practice and a specialization in Community Organization. Her BA was earned at the University of California, Santa Barbara with a double major in Psychology and Women’s Studies. Her primary research interests include violence in families and relationships, including child abuse, sexual assault and coercion, dating and domestic violence and stalking.In particular, her interest includeexamining gender differences in perpetration, interventions with perpetrators, and possible long-term effects on victimized children, such as eating disorders, self-injury, risk-taking and perpetuation of violence in adolescence and adulthood.
