Biography
Professor Anna Maria Santiago, a specialist in social welfare policy and research methodology, joined the faculty in 1997 as the School's first director of research. The former social worker for Catholic Social Services in Milwaukee conducts research on a number of topics, including social capital formation and asset building in low-income families; neighborhood effects on child and youth development; theimpact ofsocial welfareprograms aimed at improving the economic opportunities and life chances of low-income families and children; poverty and welfare dependency; residential segregation and housing discrimination in U.S. metropolitan areas; violence in minority families; minority access to social service delivery systems; the social and economic consequences of disability status; and spirituality and social work.
