Our Mission

Our mission is to transmit, develop, critically examine, and apply knowledge to advanced social work practice and social welfare policy in order to promote social, cultural and economic justice for the betterment of poor, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families, groups, communities, organizations, and society.

Why Continuing Education?

The Wayne State University School of Social Work, known for its excellence in social work practice, is the premiere provider of continuing education in the metro Detroit area, integrating both intellectually challenging and practice-relevant courses. Our continuing education programs are distinguished by quality instruction provided by highly experienced social work practitioners on substantive issues encountered in today’s practice environment. Workshops are intended to inform practitioners on theoretical advances and ‘best practices’ in the profession as well as challenge practitioners to integrate current knowledge from the social science research in their professional work. All programs meet the criteria for approval by the State of Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative. The School will gladly apply for approval from other credentialing bodies when requested.
