Welcome from the Dean
The School of Social Work at Wayne State University is among the nation's leaders in preparing people for professional practice. We offer both undergraduate and graduate programs leading to the B.S.W. or M.S.W. degree. Recognized nationally for the quality of our educational programs, we have rated as the number one undergraduate social work program in the country for the past four years. Our graduate program is ranked in the top fourth of all schools of social work. These accolades are due, of course, to the school's outstanding faculty who regularly contribute to the knowledge base of the profession through their articles and books. You can read more about their academic and research pursuits on the Faculty pages.
Beyond its reputation for providing quality education, the School of Social Work at Wayne State is also known for the warmth of its faculty and staff members and our commitment to students. The congenial staff in our Office of Admissions and Student Services assists potential students in all phases of their pursuit of a WSU social work degree. From the time a potential student inquires about our program, they remain in contact, conducting regular informational meetings about our program (see the Admissions Process page for a schedule), facilitating the admission process and answering financial aid questions. Classroom and field faculty are available in the classroom, on site or at regularly scheduled office hours. In this environment, students find the School of Social Work an excellent place to pursue their social work education.
Whether you are interested in one of our degree programs or simply in getting to know us better, I want to extend a personal invitation to potential students to visit the school. If you are unable to visit us personally, you can be sure that we will respond quickly to your telephone or written inquiries.
