A member of the part-time faculty since 1976, Professor Loren Hoffman joined the faculty full-time in 1996. Serving as executive director of a mental health agency for 25 years, he brings to the School a diverse social work practice background in mental health, substance abuse, employee assistance, group work and marriage and family therapy. Professor Hoffman has worked for the past 9 years as an academic advisor and field advisor supporting professional development of students and career path development of recent graduates. In the curriculum area of field education he coordinated field work assignments for undergraduate and graduate students, and he continues to conduct a seminar for field instructors who supervise internships. Areas of research interest include supervision, social work practice in higher education and best practices and evidence based practice in social work.
In his current administrative role, as special assistant to the dean, he has a spectrum of duties including the development and coordination of administrative and academic activities, policies and procedures. He also serves as support staff and liaison to the School’s Alumni Association.
