POSITION:                 TVLA Social Worker (General/31A Funded)

REPORTS TO:            TVLA Program Manager

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school.
  • Full or temporary certification as a School Social Worker by the State of Michigan.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with at-risk children and families.
  • Special Education experience working with students with disabilities.

Position Objective: To promote and enhance the overall academic mission by providing services that strengthens school, home, and community partnerships and alleviates barriers to learning. School Social Workers bring valuable knowledge and skills from diverse perspectives, which clarify and respond to the needs of students, parents, and school staff, thus resulting in higher levels of functioning and positive outcomes.

Essential Functions and Tasks:

  • Provide guidance and counseling to students and parents. Focus wilt be on students who:
    1. Demonstrate continual discipline and attendance problems
    2. Certified in Special Education with services indicated in an IEP
    3. Living in an abused, neglected, or homeless environment
    4. Unsuccessful in traditional academic setting
  • Assist families in using community resources to resolve family problems and to help increase knowledge of learning opportunities for their student(s).
  • Provide anti-bullying interventions, such as education and prevention strategies.
  • Assist families in using community resources to resolve family problems and to help increase knowledge of learning opportunities for their student(s).
  • Provide knowledge of community resources to aid with basic needs of students and families.
  • Consult and collaborate with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on cases and in establishing and planning for student behavior modification.
  • Serve as a liaison between home, school, and outside community agencies when follow-up is necessary for the well being of the child.
  • Assist with the facilitation of IEP meetings (and evaluate students whose academics are affected by their social, affective, or behavioral issues.
  • Assume responsibility for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and services to meet the needs of students who have special adjustment concerns.
  • Assist in planning and implementing of parent programs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records.
  • Perform social worker duties as directed by the Program Manager and the Director of Special Education.

BASE RATE OF PAY:

Daily Rate: $150.00 per day. This is an all year round school. This position is not subject to any benefits of any bargaining units within the Taylor School District.
