Description

The In-Home Family Support worker will deliver services to families who are referred by the Department of Health and Human Services. The Family Support Worker will engage parents and their families, who are experiencing multiple challenges, in problem solving in order to reduce identified risks within the family unit, increase safety, and enhance the quality of lives for children and families at various levels. A strength based, solution focused, skill teaching model is used in all home based, family preservation programs, including Families First of Michigan and Families Together Building Solutions programs. The expectation for flexibility in work schedule is necessary.

Education Requirement

A bachelor degree in social work, sociology, psychology, family ecology, consumer/community services, family studies, family and/or child development, guidance/school counseling, or counseling psychology is a required minimum.

*A bachelor degree in social work is preferred.

Qualifications

Valid Michigan driver’s license, with vehicle insurance

Cultural competence

Knowledge and skills in the areas of substance abuse, domestic violence, and crisis intervention

Non-judgmental positive attitude toward families in crisis

Knowledge of treatment (intervention and technique) philosophies and strategies of home-based services, including strength based approach

Good writing skills to complete all case notes and reports according to contract guidelines

Ability to work collaboratively with all other involved service providers

Ability to provide overall plan coordination
