Posting: Southfield Community Anti-Drug Coalition Project Coordinator

The SCADC is currently looking for a project coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate is someone who is energetic, self-motivated, and passionate about substance abuse prevention and excited to empower youth to make healthy decisions. We are looking for a hard-working individual who is able to connect the big picture to daily work and communicate effectively to a wide variety of organizational partners and participants. This position offers a great opportunity to work toward positive change that will impact the policies and systems surrounding health in the community.

Necessary Qualifications

Experienced and excited by working with youth, especially ages 11-17, in a non-academic setting, such as a recreation or experiential learning environment. Passionate about substance abuse prevention, public health, and community.

Skills

Community Organizing: ability to create and form positive, authentic relationships with community members from multiple backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences and inspire involvement in our work. Effective writing skills (able to understand audience and tone, communicate across a variety of platforms in a positive and effective manner). Ability to bring together and foster a team of youth to carry out projects. Project management. Facilitation of youth groups. Empathy and curiosity.

Major Functions

Carries out multiple simultaneous, long-range projects independently and collaboratively, including outreach events. Engages in and carries out program recruitment actively and continually. Creates and carries out youth program curricula on a weekly basis. Meets with community members and partners on a bi-weekly and monthly basis. Tracks progress of health-related policy development in the community, ongoing. Assists in evaluating program results and impacts, ongoing. Adeptly uses word processing, spreadsheets, social media, and other technology as needed.

Description of duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director with coordination, management and implementation of Action Plan including developing, as well as leading Youth Coalition
  • Maintain and develop new partnerships with individuals and organizations in the community to foster community collaboration
  • Coordinate efforts of major public awareness campaigns
  • Office management including ordering and purchasing supplies, coordinating printing, distribution and mass mailings of Coalition publications
  • Represent the Coalition at school, parent and community meetings and events

Qualifications for position:

  • Bachelor or 2 year degree preferred in human development, education, health field
  • Two years or more work experience in education or other youth related program Supervisory relationships
  • Reports to the Coalition Director

Skills and knowledge required:

  • Ability to relate well with youth, the public, in person and on the telephone
  • Flexible, resourceful, dependable and well organized
  • Capable and practiced in handling complex and/or multi-faceted tasks
  • Microsoft office, power point, publisher, excel

Personal qualities:

  • Self-starter with good communication skills
  • Ability to problem-solve, express thoughts and perceptions clearly
  • Ability to carry out assignments with minimal supervision
  • Quality work ethic, commitment to continuous professional growth and development

Travel and any other special conditions/requirements:

Local travel for events and meetings. Must be available to attend National Trainings.

Salary range:

$ 30,000-$35,360 based on experience.

Hours:

40 hours per week, some weekends as needed. Flex time.
