Posting: Research Consultant - The New School - 3 locations

July 25, 2022

NOTICE OF SEARCH FOR INDEPENDENT RESEARCH CONSULTANTS

Professor Joseph Heathcott at The New School in New York seeks one research consultant in each of three cities: Detroit, St. Louis, and Philadelphia. Working as an independent contractor, research consultants will provide services to the project titled The Rust Archipelago: Natural and Human Ecologies After Abandonment. The project seeks to understand how people conceptualize and envision their relationships with landscapes characterized by high levels of disinvestment, racial discrimination, capital flight, and population loss.

Consultants will conduct interviews with residents in their city using a semistructured instrument developed by the research team. Each consultant will conduct 20 one-hour interviews, and will be responsible for collecting additional information, complying with human subjects protocols, and gathering signed consent forms from interviewees. Consultants will be paid $100 per interview plus $500 upon completion of their work. There will also be opportunities for coauthoring papers, should there be mutual interest. We hope to complete interviews between now and the end of the year (final deadline 15 March 2023).

To be considered, consultants should have experience conducting interviews as well as engaging with people in marginalized communities. Candidates must be either recent graduates or currently enrolled students in Ph.D. or terminal masters degree programs (e.g. MSW, MCP, MPH). People who identify with BIPOC communities are especially encouraged to apply.
