DESCRIPTION:

Provide comprehensive school social work/counseling services to parents, students and school staff, addressing barriers that limit a student from receiving full benefit from their educational experience. Respond to referrals from school administration, parents, teachers, the Student Support Team and others by providing direct services and by assisting families in accessing appropriate school and community resources.


QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Master's degree in Social Work or School Counseling
  2. Approval by the State of Michigan as a school social worker or school counselor.
  3. Experience working in a middle school setting.
  4. Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Impairments, Cognitive Impairments, and other learning disabilities preferred.
  5. Strong diagnostic skills and knowledge of a wide range of psychiatric disorders.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Experience facilitating the IEP process.
  8. Experience participating in the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team process.
  9. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, and parents.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Collaborate with parents, educational staff and community agencies to coordinate programs and services for students, including active participation in the MTSS process.
  2. Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments. Write and implement corresponding Behavior Support Plans.
  3. Maintain accurate and confidential records.
  4. Foster students' personal, social, and life planning skills.
  5. Provide individual and small group instructional support to students in areas such as executive functioning, emotional regulation, peer interactions and resilience.
  6. Provide crisis counseling when necessary
  7. Develop and reinforce Positive Behavior Intervention Supports.
  8. Provide information, referral, and follow-up to parents and students for community agencies and resources.
  9. Support student's social emotional needs
