We invite applications and nominations for an Assistant Lecturer or Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Social Work to join us in preparing today’s health and social services workforce.


POSITION DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS

Applications are invited for a full-time, non-tenure line appointment in the Department of Social Work available spring semester 2023. Successful candidates will have the ability to teach across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in teaching any of the following areas: social work practice, addictions and mental health, diversity, theory, social welfare policy, practice and program evaluation, field practicum, or other areas based on practice expertise. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to the NASW Code of Ethics and communicate specific ways they will teach these standards to undergraduate and/or graduate students. Candidates should have strong teaching and practice skills to develop instructional activities, facilitate classroom discussion, and provide generalist, clinical or macro practice supervision. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive excellence.

We seek faculty candidates to teach four social work courses in both the fall and spring semesters, provide practicum supervision to students through classroom seminars and field work, and actively contribute to the intellectual and professional life of the Department of Social Work, College of Health, Ball State University, and the social work community at the local and state levels. Candidates for appointment as an Assistant Lecturer of Practice should have an earned Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program and at least two years post-MSW practice experience. To be appointed as an Assistant Professor of Practice, candidates should hold an earned doctorate (e.g., PhD, DSW, EdD, PsyD, DrPH) and have at least two years post-MSW practice experience.

THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WORK

In our programs, students will discover more about themselves as they work to improve the quality of life for others; to advocate for social, economic, and environmental justice for vulnerable populations; and to acquire the skills, knowledge, and values to work with diverse people. With more than 300 students in our undergraduate major, we are the oldest accredited undergraduate social work program in the state. We also have a rapidly growing MSW program with over 100 students from across the globe. The department houses a gerontology minor and recently launched an online BSW program and an MSW program at the Ball State Indy campus.


THE COLLEGE OF HEALTH

A vital health resource for Indiana in preparing health professionals, the College of Health is moving boldly forward in making interprofessional education, practice and research its paradigm across its disciplines. The College offers 32 academic programs in 7 units: Departments of Counseling Psychology, Social Psychology, and Counseling; Military Science; Nutrition and Health Science; Speech Pathology and Audiology; and Social Work plus the Schools of Nursing and Kinesiology. Our 224 faculty and staff serve nearly 3,000 students. We partner with regional communities for immersive learning and research. Our Health Professions Building was opened in 2019 with 165,000 square feet and is LEED Gold certified. Our Interprofessional Community Clinics offers a range of health and mental health services by students supervised by faculty as well as community health education and prevention services through the Healthy Lifestyle Center. Other facilities include the Health and Physical Activity (HP) complex, Ball Gymnasium, and Lewellen Aquatic Center. Our faculty and students contribute to the evidence base for their respective disciplines. Our research footprint features research institutes, including the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies and Human Perfo rmance Lab.
