Summary:
- Provides Social Work or Counselling Services for students and families
- Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team to identify, assess, coordinate and connect and direct students and families to supports and resources.
- Develop partnerships within the school and community that ensure students and families receive access to human services, health care, social service, and mental health
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as initial point of contact for students and families in order to access services
- Identify problems and situations interfering with the ability of children to make optimal use of the educational experience
- Serve as a liaison between school, home, and community service providers
- Screen, assess, refer, connect and support students and families in navigating services
- Screen students for social emotional health using identified screening tools
- Assist students and families navigate through systems processes and protocol (i.e. education, mental health, social services, human services, healthcare)
- Develop partnerships with community resources and supports within and outside the school system for use by students, families and school personnel
- Promote and encourage communication between building/district staff, students; families, human services, behavioral health, medical health, social services, and other community partners
- Develop and implement student and family engagement strategies in order to build relationships, promote positive school culture/climate,raise awareness of Whole Child needs,connect families to supports and educate on available resources and supports available within the school community
- Assist in implementation of Student Study Teams to assess needs of identified students, determine strategies to meet need, monitor progress and evaluate outcomes
- Serve on school/district/ISD Whole Child Team to assess building/district need, identify and develop strategies and evaluate progress of the Whole Child framework
- Coordinate parental/community learning opportunities. Monitor implementation of SEL Program
- Coordinate and support provision of professional learning for district/building staff around non-academic indicators
- Meet on a regular basis with school administrators and other building/district leadership to review needed supports/services and address issues impacting student achievement
- Consult with staff on classroom and/or building strategies to meet student needs
- Coordinate implementation, analysis, and use of needs assessments
- Document student progress and complete all required paperwork in a timely manner
- Serve as the Homeless Liaison
- Serve as the 504 Coordinator at the middle school
- Serve as the contact person for the Handle With Care regarding middle school students
- Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience:
Master's degree in social work or counseling required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration:
Temporary or full approval as a school social worker in the State of Michigan; Current Michigan license as master's level social worker or valid Michigan teaching certificate with certification of School Counselor (NT) K-12.
Pre-employment Screening:

Salary and Benefits:
Salary is per the teacher's salary schedule based on qualifications and experience. Benefits per the negotiated collective bargaining agreement.
