Posting: Volunteer Opportunities - Ele's Place, Ann Arbor MI

May 18, 2023

Ele's Place is a non-profit, community-driven organization that provides bereavement support services to grieving children and teens through a peer support group model. Ele’s Place relies on volunteers to offer these services at no cost to families.

In the state of Michigan, 1 in 11 children will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the age of 18; that number more than doubles by age 25. Experiencing a significant death during childhood often results in profound stress and adversity, and can impact development; access to comprehensive, grief-focused and trauma-informed can help (Judi’s House, 2023).

As we prepare for the 2023-2024 school year, we are seeking interested, kind and compassionate adults who want to make a difference in our community.

Volunteering with our support group program, one night per week, offers a unique and rewarding experience: volunteers have the opportunity to work on teams, facilitate grief activities and build knowledge about childhood bereavement.

We offer an in-depth and interactive training for all volunteers, so no prior experience is necessary.

As bereavement work is grounded in listening and empathy, students have an opportunity to build essential skills as they enter human-facing professions.
