OVERVIEW

The Development Associate position supports the revenue growth and diversification of the field

office and is responsible for cultivating, promoting, and stewarding all grant-writing, proposal

development, community individual giving, establishing corporate sponsorships, and additional

tasks as needed. The position reports to the Field Office Director and works in close coordination

with the USCRI Development Department. The ideal candidate will be flexible with strong

interpersonal skills, open to taking on varied responsibilities, and a self-starter.

In consultation with the Field Office Director and Development Director, develops,

recommends, and executes a strategy for prospecting, retaining, and growing foundation

funding and donor contributions, in alignment with industry best practices, USCRI’s

mission and goals, and national/global events and news;

Engage and build a portfolio of local foundations and the business sector on opportunities

to partner and support USCRI, under the direction of the Field Office Director;

Research and apply for funding opportunities from various sources, including government

(federal, state, and local), foundations and corporations;

Write, revise and submit funding proposals on behalf of the field office, in collaboration

with Finance and Program staff, working closely with the Development team to ensure

quality of all proposals;

Manage gift processing, including management of monetary and in-kind gift acceptance,

and coordinate with Development and Finance staff to ensure timely acknowledgement,

proper entry and tracking of gifts, and accuracy of donor records;

Maintain and build relationships with major donors in alignment with the USCRI

Development Department practices, sufficiently to assure donor loyalty and solicit

increased giving;

Enhance agency efforts to solicit in-kind donations through volunteers and other

community support;

Plan, implement and track progress of approved agency events, including outreach,

community engagement, and fundraising events;

Support marketing and communications activities to promote agency events activities;

and

Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university;

Minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in grant writing; project and budget

design; and drafting needs assessments and program outcomes. Must have a

demonstrated track record of writing successfully funded grant proposals (federal and

non-federal) and successfully identifying public and private funding sources;

Demonstrated experience in donor engagement and fundraising campaigns, including

experience in asking for donations;

Comfort with direct donor interaction is essential, including discussions of personal and

family finances and asking for major financial commitments;

Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective,

accurate and timely reports;

Highly effective communication skills, demonstrating strong partnership skills, emotional

intelligence, and situational awareness;

Refrain from taking solicitation rejection personally, receive critique without getting

defensive, and exhibits an appropriate sense of humor;

Self-starter with ability to work well in a team, juggle multiple priorities, and meet tight

deadlines;

Excellent writing, editing, and computer skills required, including knowledge of Microsoft

Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat;

Experience with development applications and software (e.g., DonorPefect, Stripe,

SalesForce, GrantsHub) preferred; and

Demonstrated support of USCRI’s values by exhibiting respect for others, maintenance of

confidential information and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

· Satisfactory completion of USCRI’s Orientation and Training;

· Complete additional training as identified by supervisor or Human Resources.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

· Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity;

· Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and

mental applications and demands;

· Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying; and

· Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard

measurements).
