Job purpose

As an Adoption Worker, you will impact the lives of children and families by helping to ensure that foster children who are legally free for adoption find permanency as soon as possible. The primary responsibility of an Adoption Specialist is to evaluate and select adoptive families for children referred to the program for adoption placement and aid them through the adoption process.

The collection and timely completion of paperwork/documentation, and coordination of support services for the children placed in their care is necessary for success in this role. The ideal candidate will be self-disciplined, organized, empathetic and understand the impact of trauma.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Reviews all information and meets with relevant parties to develop Family and Child Assessments, Subsidy Applications, Quarterly Adoption Assessments and Transition Plans in a timely manner
  • Maintain hard copy and electronic client files by filing, updating information, uploading documents and contacts into database in accordance with Licensing & Contract Compliance standards
  • Schedule and facilitate adoption orientation, and other necessary trainings
  • Photo list all children available for adoption on MARE within 30 days of termination of parental rights
  • Responsible for home visits & phone contact in compliance with contract standards
  • Provides all case management services to client and family
  • Attend school related conferences and other meetings when needed
  • File 3200’s when necessary (mandated reporting)
  • Attend all staff meetings as assigned
  • Responsible for On-Call duties as assigned
  • Complete 40 hours of on-going training annually
  • Perform other job related tasks or duties as assigned by the Program Manager
  • Represent the Guiding Harbor, on internal/external committees or work groups to enhance service delivery or service planning.

Requirements

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of human services such as: Social work, Psychology, Counseling and guidance, Child development, or a similar field of study
  • Knowledge of the child welfare system and juvenile court procedures
  • Understanding of working with children who have experienced trauma.
  • Reliable transportation and maintain good driving record.
  • Commitment to the goals and philosophy of the organization including cultural competency objectives.

  • Must be highly motivated and flexible
  • Must display sophisticated writing and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently or with a team.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, Project

Working conditions

  • This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Responsible to work with On-Call when there is an emergency and perform On-Call duties as needed.
  • Must hold a valid drivers license
  • May be required to work nights and Weekends and have a flexible schedule.
  • This position requires travel; Must have reliable transportation, valid auto insurance and maintain a good driving record.

Physical requirements

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Positions in this class typically require fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials found in a home or general office environment.
  • Use of household cleaning products and disinfectants may be required.
