Social work Assistant Professor Jason Carbone wins competitive national research award to improve community health outcomes

The award stems from the NIH Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs), established by Congress to recruit and retain highly qualified health professionals into biomedical or biobehavioral research careers. This award supports Carbone's work in developing effective, evidence-based interventions for issues of social injustice and social disparities related to health.

WSU Social Work Associate Professor Tam Perry takes on new role as Training Director at the Institute of Gerontology

An expert in gerontology, Perry is taking on a new role at the WSU Institute of Gerontology. Perry will be mentoring 12 doctoral students specializing in various aspects of gerontology and organizing the IOG research colloquia as the new IOG Training Director.

Michigan AHEC Scholars Program Welcomes New IPE Faculty Kristy Andreski Price

In her new role, Price will work to promote and support the AHEC Scholars Program among social work students and the WSU campus community. AHEC Scholars is a national program that is designed for health professions students from diverse backgrounds who are interested in supplementing their education by gaining additional knowledge and experience in rural or urban underserved communities.

Seth Allard

 

Social Work doctoral student Seth Allard first at Wayne State to be selected for elite research leadership program

Allard has became the university's first-ever recipient of a prestigious four-year Health Policy Research Scholars Program fellowship funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and coordinated by Johns Hopkins. Allard will be pursuing interdisciplinary and transcultural research on chronic health issues, specifically related to suicide and mental health, within the military and Native American communities.

Social Work doctoral student Caitlin Cassady awarded distinguished fellowship renewal

Cassady has been awarded a renewal of her King-Chávez-Parks Future Faculty Fellowship Program. The program was created by the Michigan Legislature to curb the downward spiral of college graduation rates for students underrepresented in postsecondary education.

SWAN program scholar Kathryn Wright wins Shirley Brice Heath Travel Stipend Award

With the support of the Shirley Brice Heath Travel Stipend Award from the Council on Anthropology and Education, Wright has been able to connect with fellow researchers as she pursues her goal of  disability justice in all areas of society.
