Congratulations to Erin Comartin and Jun Song Hung who have been awarded tenure and promotion to Associate Professor!


A team from the School of Social Work led by Michael Kral, Antonio Gonzalez-Prendes and Jamie Lister received final approval from the WSU's Internal Review Board to conduct a study titled: A survey of social work students mental health and their attitudes toward mental illness and substance use disorders. The 3-year study funded by a $5,000 award from the School of Social Work will follow participants through their MSW education and their first year of work experience. The study will begin in the Fall 2019.


Caitlin Brown, Stef Kastely, and Shantalea Johns won the best of the poster session at the 2019 NACADA region 5 conference that was held March 13-15.  The poster highlighted the year 1 WSU suicide prevention initiatives and its impact on the campus community. Annually, one BSW and one MSW student from each accredited social work program in the state is nominated to receive the NASW-Michigan Social Work Student of the Year Award. The award honors excellence in social work practice, community involvement, and engagement on campus. Wayne State hosted the 2019 Award Ceremony recognizing students from across Southeast Michigan on April 9th. Congratulations to our BSW student of the year, Masuma Jinnat and MSW student of the year Dominique Golden!
