A Position Opening for an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

The School of Social Work at Wayne State University invites applications and nominations for Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. This position will be especially attractive to an academic leader who wishes to join an administrative team and play a key role in a forward moving School of Social Work. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, in collaboration with the Dean and faculty, will provide strategic leadership to promote and maintain the academic excellence of the School. Responsibilities include: assist in the design and development of a cutting edge, rigorous, curriculum and administrative policies and procedures; coordinate efforts to develop new programs; assist with program assessment and renewal activities; assure the adherence to accreditation standards; serve as the School’s graduate officer; provide supervision to the BSW and MSW Coordinators as well as the Director of Field Education and the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, and; manage faculty workloads, course schedules, hire, orient and mentor part-time faculty and assist with faculty search activities.

Candidates must have a doctorate in social work, social welfare or a related discipline and an MSW. A record of research, scholarship, teaching and service that is consistent with appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure is required. We are seeking candidates with expertise in the areas of health, mental/behavioral health, community development, children and families, poverty and economic disparity. However, candidates in all areas are encouraged to apply. The position also requires administrative experience, leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively. Preference is for candidates whose research and teaching demonstrate knowledge about issues and concerns of urban, poor or vulnerable populations.
