A gift in memory of an MSW alum, Freda Rosenblatt, the social worker who "did it her way"
Wayne State School of Social Work Alumnus Cecil Moix '67 recently made a gift in remembrance of Freda Rosenblatt '54 MSW who passed away a little less than a year ago at the age of 91. "Freda set a standard and provided a legacy of excellence in Social Work practice that continues to inspire those who knew her," Cecil stated.
Freda Rosenblatt was born in 1926 and was a women empowered beyond her time. She attended the University of Illinois and then received her MSW from Wayne State University. She worked as a social worker for the City of Detroit and the State of Michigan for more than 50 years. Freda began her career in the Department of Public Welfare and retired as Associate Director of Detroit Psychiatric Institute and its Director of Social Work when the facility closed in 1997.
Cecil Moix honored Freda's memory with a recent gift to the School of Social Work. He stated that, "Her incisive analysis of problems whether clinical or administrative, was only matched by the ability to develop effective strategies for overcoming them. Both of those attributes produced the results they did because of her indomitable will and stamina in bringing them to fruition. All of this fierceness was effective because she provided support to all who wanted to do their best." A legend in her time, her tombstone bears the proud inscription 'She did it her way'."
