Anwar Najor-Durack of Michigan wins 2015 leadership award and is elected to ASWB Nominating Committee

Anwar Najor-Durack receives the ASWB 2015 Sunny Andrews award from Brian Philson, executive director of the Michigan Board of Social Work.

Anwar Najor-Durack of Michigan was recognized for outstanding service to the Michigan Board of Social Work by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) during its 2015 Annual Meeting of the Delegate Assembly, held in November in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Najor-Durack, current chair of the Michigan Board of Social Work, was honored with the 2015 Sunny Andrews Award for Outstanding Commitment to Social Work Regulatory Board Service. The award is given annually by ASWB to a volunteer member of a social work regulatory board. The honor is named for Sunny Andrews of Nebraska, a past president of the association.

Najor-Durack, a Licensed Master Social Worker, clinical and macro designation, is in her third term and 10th year on the Michigan Board of Social Work. She is the director of field education at Wayne State University (WSU), where she oversees the placement of all BSW and MSW students at the school. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and an MSW from WSU. She completed her Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies at the College of Education at WSU in 2011.

With ASWB, Najor-Durack was appointed to chair the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) Committee for four years, from 2012 through 2015. She was elected to the Nominating Committee at the association's 2015 annual meeting. She will serve a two-year term.
