What's one of the biggest mistakes you made as a student?

One of my biggest mistakes as a student was failing to ask questions and just hoping that I understood the entire picture on my own.

What approach do you take to advising?

I always try to keep in mind what life was like for me as a student and utilize empathy when working with students. Entering a field agency for the first time can be intimidating, so understanding the needs and concerns of my students is paramount to direct them to resources within the School and our University that can help.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

Helping students pursue their passion and be successful is definitely my favorite part of the job.

Do you have any advice for incoming students?

My advice to incoming students is don't be afraid to ask questions. Asking questions isn't going to hurt your advancement in your social work journey, but not having all of the information can.

Do you have any advice for graduating students?

My advice for graduating students is to make a plan to ensure you give your best and are excellent in all you do. Ambition, drive, knowledge, and a plan all go hand-in-hand.

How can students connect with you remotely?

Students can reach me by email at or phone at 313-577-4446.
