Social Work Warriors celebrate Social Work Month - March 2024
For over a century, social workers have been working to empower social change in their communities and advocating for social programs that impact us all. Led by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), every March we recognize the over 700,000 social workers in the U.S. and three million worldwide who positively impact our daily lives. According to NASW, the March 2024 theme “Empowering Social Workers” focuses on ways Americans can support the social work profession as it addresses issues our nation is facing, including the need for more mental health services providers to combat social issues such as the rise in suicide, expanding opioid epidemic and increased rates of homelessness.
Ways to Celebrate
We encourage our Warrior Strong alumni, students and friends to celebrate social workers this March in the following ways:
- Attend an event held this March, including the third portion of the Promoting Social Justice and Equity for Sexual and Gender Diverse Communities Series on March 7, 2024, which focuses on developing a critically conscious awareness regarding the lived experiences of transgender and gender diverse individuals.
- Expand your expertise and earn some CE’s with an event or online course from the Office of Continuing Education
- Get involved via social media:
- Follow us on social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter/X) and like and repost our Social Work Warrior Inspirtation posts, which will be featured throughout March.
- Share the essential work you do in your everyday lives through posts, pictures, and videos. Use the phrase: "I became a Social Work Warrior because..." or "I chose to study at Wayne State because…” and be sure to tag us!
- Looking for some quick template posts? View the NASW Social Media Toolkit and be sure to use the hashtags for this March: #SWMonth2024 #EmpoweringSocialWorkers #SocialWorkMonth and #NASW
Social Work Warrior Inspiration
What inspired you to become a social worker? What drew you to the study at Detroit’s Social Work School? We posed these questions to our students as part of a Social Work Student Video Contest and their responses are inspiring. Take a peek at the top three videos we received below and gain some inspiration to create and share your own video on social media!
