On Sept. 14 the Dual Title Program in Social Work and Infant Mental Health hosted its annual Supervisor’s Breakfast for agency supervisors and community collaborators in the Infant Mental Health field. The Infant Mental Health program is located at the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute for Child and Family Development. It is a multidisciplinary training program that includes faculty and students from Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Nursing and Psychology.
The Wayne State School of Social Work was well represented at the 5th Annual Fostering Futures Scholarship event, held at Joe Louis Arena on Sept. 22. Sponsored by the Michigan Education Trust, the event and other fundraisers this year have raised money to provide college scholarships for more than 500 former foster youth. M.S.W. student Clarice Perkins was the featured scholarship recipient at the event, and staff and students from the WSU Transition to Independence Program, as well as the WSU/Wayne County Community College District Collaborative were present. M.S.W. student Laine Putans will be representing the School of Social Work on Wayne State’s Student Senate. As the voice of the School of Social Work, she needs help in developing goals for the academic year! Adjunct faculty member Marla Ruhana is featured in the documentary “Pink & Blue: Colors of Hereditary Cancer†on genetic mutations BRCA 1 and 2 and how it puts both men and women at risk for developing numerous cancers. It will be shown in Royal Oak on Nov. 9. Come out and show your support!
