The first annual Walk For Wellness was a success! The walk, which took place May 17, was organized by the Wayne State University School of Social Work, Counseling and Psychological Services, and other groups across campus in support of Mental Health Awareness Week (May 16-22).

A total of 59 graduates from the School of Social Work participated in the 2016 African American Graduation Celebration held on April: 11 B.S.W.s, 47 M.S.W.s, and one Ph.D.

In early June, Lauree Emery will travel to Mexico to facilitate the adoption of Alonso, a four-year-old orphan, who currently lives in a garbage dump in Juxtlahuaca Oaxaca. Alonso will travel with Dr. Emery to Chicago, where he will be adopted by his new family.

Joanne Sobeck is a participating member of Citizenship and Health, a multi-disciplinary team of Wayne State researchers interested in deliberative democracy as a community engagement method for addressing health disparities.
