An article published Feb. 21 by NPR titled “As They Dig Deeper Into Parenting, Fathers Seek Community, Support†referenced an article by Carolyn Dayton that appeared in Social Work Research in December 2016. The journal article, titled “Expectant Fathers’ Beliefs and Expectations about Fathering as They Prepare to Parent a New Infant,†draws from Dr. Dayton’s Baby on Board study and her finding that fathers rely heavily on women in their lives for advice on parenting.
Dr. Dayton shared tips with MetroParent on how dads can lay the foundation for a strong relationship with their kids in the Feb. 26 article “How to Bond with Your Baby: Advice for Dads.â€
Joy Ernst presented a workshop at the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Association of Gerontology in Higher Education entitled “Developing a Syllabus for a Course on Elder Justice for Undergraduate Students Using the AGHE Competencies as a Framework to Promote Interprofessional Collaboration†in Miami on March 9, 2017.
WOW! Program faculty Fay Keys, Sharonlyn Harrison, Norma Schropshire and Janet Joiner Assistant Professor, University of Detroit Mercy, presented “To Teach or Not to Teach Online?†at the Michigan Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Educators Conference at Saginaw Valley State University on March 31. The presentation highlighted the history of Wayne State’s WOW! Program, important policies to consider when developing and implementing online instruction, engagement resources and assessment guidelines.
