Presentations and Media December 2016

On Dec. 7 in the U.S. Capitol Building, Angelique Day will host a congressional briefing, “Confronting the Challenges of Older Youth and Young Adults in the Foster Care System: A focus on higher education opportunities,” as a staffer for Congressman Danny K. Davis and a member of the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth in D.C. at the US Capitol. The Transition to Independence Program program is a featured program that is based heavily on Dr. Day’s research which will be showcased at the briefing. Senate and Congressional Sponsors for the event include Sen. Debbie Stabenow, Sen. Charles Grassley, and Rep. Karen Bass. WSU featured speakers include campus coach Airika Buford and TIP student Jasmine Uqdah.  In addition to the briefing, Dr. Day has lined up meetings for Airika and Jasmine to speak with staff from the Senate Finance Committee (thanks to Sen. Ron Wyden) and House Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (thanks to Rep. Bobby Scott).

Lauren Notoriano (below) presents her poster alongside her faculty mentor, Jamey Lister at the Wayne State University Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Conference that was held on Friday, Nov. 11 in the Wayne State Student Center. Lauren earned an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program Fellowship for Spring/Summer 2016 and presented a poster at the Conference titled “Hardships and Needs of Persons with Heroin Dependency: A Grounded Theory of What Social Workers Need to Know.”
