Joanne Sobeck and Joanne Smith-Darden were invited to meet with two visiting Eisenhower Fellows to discuss community engagement and research at Wayne State University with applications related to the Flint water crisis, teen dating violence and schools, economic self-sufficiency and capacity building. The fellows were Anita Ahmad from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Fatima Kyari Mohammed from Maitama, Abuja Nigeria. The meeting included discussion on potential training opportunities between the School of Social Work and the Hasanah Foundation and LikeMinds Project. Below (left to right) are Kyari Mohammed, Ahmad, Dean Cheryl Waites, and Dr. Sobeck.

On April 28, Shantalea Johns, Julie Alter-Kay, and M.S.W. Student Aubrey Gililand were workshop presenters at the Michigan Library Association's Community Collaborations - Mental Health in Libraries conference in Bloomfield Township.

M.S.W. alumna Amanda Saab was profiled in the Easter and Passover week series "Soul Searching Today" for hosting regular dinners in her home where people from diverse communities can break bread together and learn more about Islam. A food blogger and former MasterChef contestant, Amanda hopes her project, "Dinner With Your Muslim Neighbor," can help counter negative rhetoric about the faith and bring people together.
