Presentations and Media May 2018

On April 21st, Suzanne Brown and Carolyn Dayton presented as members of an American Psychological Association Division 39 Spring meeting panel in New Orleans, LA.  Their panel entitled, "Parenting Under Siege: The Ghosts and Guardians Influencing Poverty-and Violence-Exposed Mothers and Fathers Expecting a Baby" described the accumulated bio-psycho-social-spiritual findings from a study of at-risk, expectant mothers and fathers. Dayton presented on "The Differential Effects of Proximal and Distal Factors on the Development of the Prenatal Parent-Infant Relationship in a High-Risk Sample of Mothers and Fathers"; Brown presented findings from prenatal, relationship-based interviews with pregnant parents exposed to contextual risk.

Megan Piel was invited to present "Fostering Health: Addressing the Healthcare Needs of Foster Care Alumni," on May 15th, as part of Fostering Success Michigan's webinar series on research and best practices for professionals, students, and supportive adults working with students from foster care.

Ann Carrellas (below), a doctoral candidate in the School of Social Work presented a poster on the Michigan Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Task Force at the 2018 Conference on Adolescent Health. Her co-presenter was Mary Browning, a parent from the Ann Arbor FASD support group.

Ann Carrellas, a doctoral candidate in the School of Social Work presented "Adolescents with Disabilities Involved in Child Welfare Services: Promoting Sexual Health and Safety" at the 2018 Conference on Adolescent Health in Ypsilanti, MI.

In April, Jennifer Ellis (below right), a research assistant in the School of Social Work, Doctoral Student Chris Biek, and Associate Professor Stella Resko (below left) presented "Web-based Adolescent SBIRT Training: Experiences from an Urban University" at the 2018 Conference on Adolescent Health in Ypsilanti, MI.
