Anthony King
Biography
King earned a B.A., (Cum Laude) (1978) in Sociology and Social Services from Cleveland State University, in Cleveland, Ohio, and Masters (1980) and Ph.D., (1984) degrees in Social Work from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. In 2017, King earned a Master’s of Arts in Higher Education & Lifelong Education, from Michigan State University. He has served as a full-time professor on the faculties of several universities in the Midwest and South, teaching social work practice with individuals, groups and families, human behavior, social welfare history and policy, social work research methods, and international incarceration policies and practices. During Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm King served as an Army Instructor, in the Behavioral Science Division, Academy of Health Sciences, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
King served as a clinical and program evaluation consultant to federal, state, and county community corrections agencies and programs in the Midwest and South. He counseled incarcerated juvenile and adult offenders, and developed innovative prison and community-based group work interventions and services for adult male and female inmates, parolees and probationers. King’s research and practice with criminal justice populations, as well as his research on African American’s attitudes toward marriage has been published in scholarly journals and edited books.
King is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Army Reserves and the Missouri and Alabama National Guard. He served as an enlisted Marine and commissioned Army Reserves officer, as a mortar man, military police officer, platoon leader/ detachment commander, psychological operations officer, and social work officer.
