Biography
Samantha Singer’s research experience began in Wayne State University (WSU) labs studying parent-child attachment. Following this, she worked as a grief group facilitator, behavioral therapist, and an evaluator with Head Start before returning to join WSU’s Substance Use Research Team (SURT) in 2022. Through her role as a research assistant, she has co-authored publications on child-socioemotional development as well as substance use and presented posters on the findings at local and international conferences. Her interests lie at the intersection of mental health, substance use disorders, and criminal justice system reform. She is currently pursuing an MSW and plans to gain clinical experience while continuing to develop community research and data evaluation skills.
Responsibilities
Singer currently manages grant evaluation for the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) grant. SBIRT is an evidence-based approach, that quickly identifies individuals in any stage of substance use and provides them with the necessary level of treatment. As an evaluator, she is responsible for developing data collection measurements to evaluate subrecipients’ progress and barriers toward grant goals, assisting with data analysis, and compiling comprehensive reports for the state.
