Paula Callen
Biography
Paula Callen joined the Substance Use Research Team in 2020 as a Research Assistant. Prior to the School of Social Work, she worked three years at the Center for Urban Studies as Program Coordinator for the Community Advocacy Project. Callen trained and supervised student volunteers to work with survivors of intimate partner violence living in the city of Detroit that needed help navigating community services and accessing resources. Before coming to Wayne State University, Callen spent 20 years at the Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence, becoming the Program Director in 2007 for the coalition Detroit based technical assistance program Building the Safety Net.
Responsibilities
Callen is a Project Manager for the Substance Use Research Team. Currently manages program evaluation and the Government Performance Results Act(GPRA)reporting requirements for Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Pilot Grant Program for Treatment for Pregnant and Postpartum Women in three regions, covering northern and southeastern Michigan. Other state funded program work includes the Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral (SBIRT) project and the Treatment and Basic Opioid Overdose Skill Training (MI-BOOST) project.
