Brandon Terrell

Biography

Brandon L. Terrell earned his B.S. in Psychology and MSW in Chemical Dependency and Mental Health from Eastern Michigan University. As a psychotherapist specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Brandon’s research focuses on mental health disparities, particularly the overrepresentation of schizophrenia diagnoses among Black males. His commitment to dismantling systemic oppression, elevating the voices of black males, and advocating for policy change drives both his academic pursuits and community impact.

Research Interests

 - Investigating the intersectionality of race and mental health, with a focus on the systemic factors contributing to the misdiagnosis of schizophrenia among Black males.

 

- Analyzing the societal and clinical biases that influence mental health diagnoses, particularly in marginalized populations.

 

- Examining the implications of misdiagnosis on the lived experiences of Black males and the broader mental health landscape.

 

- Advocating for and developing frameworks for culturally competent care within mental health practices to enhance therapeutic outcomes.
