Dr. Poco Kernsmith (Wayne State University, Social Work) and Dr. Joanne Smith-Darden (Michigan State University, Social Work) are currently hiring several research assistants to work with two CDC-funded projects to prevent and respond to violence and threats of violence in schools.

All positions involve primarily remote work from home.

Creating Protective Environments through School Policy Development

A longitudinal project that implements and evaluates a prevention strategy focusing on creating protective environments in schools through school policy development and technical assistance to prevent perpetration of violence among youth. Middle and high schools across Michigan will engage in a collaborative approach to develop and fully implement policies that create inclusive, protective environments through a trauma-informed approach to identify risk, prevent potential violence and respond to incidence using restorative practices (October 2020 to September 2025).

Assistant Research Coordinator (part-time, 50%): (jobs.wayne.edu Posting # 045227) Support the development of data management systems, including the collection and analysis of school-level data from annual reports and statewide surveys, and qualitative analysis of school policy statements. Assist with data entry, cleaning, and analysis of survey data. Assist with report writing for data sharing with schools and communities. Master’s Degree Preferred - $22,000 to $24,000
