Summary

The following is a job posting for a Social Worker Senior MSW position at the University of Michigan, Survey Research Center (SRC).

For over 60 years, the Survey Research Center at the Institute for Social Research (ISR) has been a national and international leader in interdisciplinary social science research involving the collection and analysis of data from scientific sample surveys. SRO seeks to fill a unique position that requires integration of clinical expertise with support to social science research operations. The primary function of this position is to serve in a lead role for a specialized program that provides telephone risk assessments, short-term support, and/or resource information to research respondents who are located nationally and referred from multiple SRO sources, such as research interviewers, toll-free call line staff, project supervisors, or referrals flagged during post-interview review. The ideal candidate will be the program point-person and intake all staff and/or project requests. This position has a flexible schedule, with some hours needed outside of the normal work week and business hours to be responding to referrals within the time periods specified by project protocols (e.g., within 24 hours). Familiarity with informed consent procedures for research subjects and research ethics is desired. This position is part of SRO’s Director’s Office.

Responsibilities

Lead the SRO Clinical Contact Program (CCP); serve as the main point of contact for the program, prioritize and manage program operations working in consultation with other CCP staff.

Apply clinical expertise in the evaluation of health/safety needs and psychosocial status of distressed and at-risk respondents. Provide crisis intervention services, risk assessments, and psychosocial support.

Facilitate respondent access to resources and benefits across the United States by acting as liaison and referral source to community or government agencies.

Document services in SRO technical systems according to project specific and CCP protocols.

Facilitate weekly CCP team meetings, providing program updates to senior staff and engaging in clinical supervision and case consultation.

Develop and present employee enrichment programs related to wellness/stress management and engage in staff training activities related to clinical support protocols.

Assist with intake and triage of mandated reporting cases.


Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.

Current licensure to practice social work in the State of Michigan (LMSW, ACSW).

At least five years post-master’s degree clinical experience. Clinical experience should include conducting risk assessments and providing mental health services and resources to populations with special concerns.

One to two years of demonstrated experience coordinating or leading program initiatives.

Ability to establish rapport with others quickly, relate well to a diverse population, have strong assessment skills, use critical reasoning in assessing issues and evaluating risks, and execute brief interventions based on thorough assessments.

Ability to provide support that is respondent-centered, respectful, and compatible with the unique populations served, including respondents who are veterans, aging, or from a variety of backgrounds facing psychosocial issues.

Demonstrated experience making critical and independent decisions while using correct judgment about when to seek guidance from senior staff.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills including gathering and skillfully conveying important information, creating oral training presentations, and preparing correspondence and other written program materials.

Highly organized, with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines under tight time constraints; adapts to changing stakeholder needs and prioritizes multiple work demands.

Competency using MS Office software and Google Workspace tools (spreadsheets, calendar, word processing, presentations).


Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have significant clinical experience with unique populations, including: at-risk and distressed adolescents, veterans, and or aging populations. Ability to speak Spanish is strongly desired.

Familiarity with research ethics and best practices is highly preferred, particularly as they apply to informed consent and handling of sensitive research data.

Experience in the organization and implementation of staff training is preferred.

Background in staff conflict resolution and assisting in implementation of strategies to improve staff relations is strongly desired.

Experience using statistical software packages such as SAS, SPSS, or STATA to conduct analyses, or a desire to learn.


Work Locations

This position will be primarily onsite in Ann Arbor, MI but some work may be completed remotely. Flexibility is required as some hours are needed outside of the normal work week and business hours due to required referral response times.
