Job Duties (essential functions):
The position reports to a faculty member in the Department of Oncology who serves as the Associate Center Director of Community Outreach and Engagement for Karmanos Cancer Institute. The incumbent is responsible for project-specific coordination and management of cancer education and outreach programs to decrease cancer health disparities. This role also includes participant recruitment, data collection, data entry and verification, data coding, some analysis and report writing for the project(s) assigned. This work will involve working with community-based organizational partners at various sites throughout Michigan, sometimes during evenings and weekends. The incumbent will be responsible for the following:
- Development of outreach strategies to engage community and healthcare stakeholders.
- Recruitment/implementation efforts and management of recruitment campaigns for assigned projects.
- Implementation of structured educational presentations.
- Organization and maintenance of logs, records, and plans.
- Collection of evaluation data, entry, coding and report writing.
- Data management and some data analysis.
Work in the community will include some evenings and weekends. Regional travel required.
Qualifications
- Must have public speaking experience.
- Must have background in community health education.
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities.
- Must have experience working with non-academic organizations/agencies.
- Must have exerience working with diverse populations.
- Must work well with community members, patients (adult and children), cancer center clinical and research staff.
- Must have critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, and exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have sound professional judgment and the ability to maintain confidential information.
- Requires great attention to detail.
