Salary: $43,963 - $55,164 per year


Hands Across The Water is a licensed, non-profit child placing agency.  

The Therapist/Counselor handles intakes of new agency clients (both children and adults), conducts biopsychosocial assessments, formulates treatment plans in collaboration with clients, maintains a regular counseling client case load, and manages accompanying client file and billing documentation for submission to agency accounting department. The Therapist/Counselor may collaborate with agency and community service providers to ensure that client needs are met, including providing observations and recommendations to the court when applicable.


The Therapist/Counselor will conduct services in office, through telehealth and in client homes as determined by client need. This position requires some travel and the availability to perform duties during non-traditional hours such as evenings, depending on case needs.

Requirements  

The Therapist/Counselor must hold a master’s degree from an accredited program of social work, counseling, marriage and family counseling, clinical psychology or closely related field. Candidate must possess a clinical license in good standing in the State of Michigan. Candidate must have experience in child welfare services and a minimum of one year of clinical experience working with children.

Appropriate candidate for this position must have the ability to work well with the agency’s client population, which is primarily children and families. Candidate must have the ability to be an active listener with good clinical observation and assessment skills, good communication skills and empathy, the ability to be flexible and able to handle change, be able to work independently, and maintain case responsibility and follow-through. Knowledge of the effects of trauma and issues common for youth who have experienced foster care and/or adoption is required. Solid clinical knowledge focusing on cognitive, emotional and behavioral solutions is necessary. Appropriate candidate must be able to understand and follow the agency’s Vision and Mission statements.  

Candidate may not have been convicted of child abuse or neglect, a felony involving harm or threatened harm to an individual within the 10 years immediately preceding the date of hire, or be listed on the central registry as a perpetrator of child abuse or child neglect. The Behavioral Health Specialist shall possess a valid Driver’s License, positive driving record and proof of automobile insurance. 

COVID-19 vaccination and booster is mandatory.
