The Position

The University Psychological Clinic (Psych Clinic) at the Mary A. Rackham Institute (at the University of Michigan) is recruiting a Social Worker MSW to provide:

  • Clinical training and supervision to social work and psychology trainees and (2) Individual and group therapy services to adult clients at the Psychological Clinic.

The successful candidate will play a central role in the Clinic’s provision of wellness-focused and mindfulness-based clinical services and training(e.g., MBCT, MBSR, Self-Compassion).


This position has the potential to be a hybrid split between remote and onsite work. Therefore, the candidate must reside within realistic travel distance to Ann Arbor be onsite.


The hiring pay range is $55,350 - $69,500, depending on qualifications. Responsibilities

  • Direct clinical practice (22-24 hours per week), and clinical supervision of clinical trainees (2-5 hours per week). Utilize evidence-based treatment with individuals and groups. Clinical work and supervision with young adult to older adult populations.
  • Clinically related administrative time (5 hours): MSW trainee recruitment, program development, collaboration with other MARI units (University Center for the Child and the Family, University Center for Language and Literacy) for social work training and services as well as coordination with other UofM units (e.g. School of Social Work, Michigan Medicine, UHS, CAPS) and community centers related to supporting mental health in the community. 
  •  Teaching/Supervision: supervision of 1-2 social work fellows and 1-2 social work intern clinical observations. This includes 1 hour per week of individual supervision, 1 hour per week review of clinical writing, 1 hour per week attendance at the case conference. Live supervision of social work intern cases (unlicensed providers) will count towards the expected direct clinical practice units per week.
  • Participation in agency initiatives: 90-minute weekly staff meeting, weekly attendance at 60-minute senior staff meetings, bimonthly attendance at MARI social work meetings, attendance at School of Social Work meetings as needed, and other agency events.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education is necessary. 
  • Must have current LMSW license to practice social work in the State of Michigan and 3-5 years of experience post-licensure status.
  • Position requires an adult clinical work experience working with young adult to older adult populations. 
  • Expertise in wellness-focused and mindfulness approaches (e.g., MBCT, MBSR, Self-Compassion).
  • Teaching/supervisory experience in an academic, health care, or group practice setting.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with tele-behavioral health and electronic medical records. 
  • Passion for integrating technology into clinical service and training.
  • Experience working with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Training and background in addressing issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in clinical work and/or institutional settings.

About MARI and Our Mission

The primary mission of the Mary A. Rackham Institute (MARI) is to (1) serve the university and broader community with compassionate, science-based services for mental health, language, and literacy concerns, and (2) provide outstanding training and education. The Psychological Clinic is a multidisciplinary adult mental health clinic located on the University of Michigan campus. The clinic provides individual therapy, couples therapy, group therapy, and testing services to students, staff, and faculty at the University of Michigan as well as members of the local community and southeast Michigan. Consistent with its primary missions of clinical service and training, the Psychological Clinic offers postgraduate training in social work as well as field placements for students in the University of Michigan’s School of Social Work. The Psychological Clinic also participates in an APA-accredited clinical psychology internship training program, practicum training for clinical psychology graduate students, and postdoctoral training in clinical psychology.

Additional Information

 This position will be filled at the Social Worker MSW Senior or Social Worker MSW level depending upon the qualifications of the selected candidate. MARI is looking for an individual who is willing to make a multiple year commitment to being part of our team. This position is structured as a 12-month, term-limited appointment, which would be anticipated to be extended beyond the 12-month period barring significant concerns related to job performance or fiscal sustainability.
