Four (4) full-time open rank faculty positions in the Wayne State University School of Social Work to begin August 2025
The School of Social Work (SSW) at Wayne State University (WSU) in Detroit, Michigan is a leader in community engaged research and practice. We invite applications for four positions that will yield candidates who add to the diverse, collaborative, and supportive environment within the SSW. We strongly encourage a ‘person in environment framework’ with a particular interest in race equity and attention to vulnerable populations. The ideal candidates will be engaged within the community and be able to capitalize on the SSW established and emerging connections to academic units, service agencies, communities and government.
We are currently seeking candidates for the following:
Tenured/Tenure Track Professors
- Child welfare scholar whose work focuses on maltreatment prevention, system responses to abuse and neglect, child welfare practice and policy, and/or workforce development. To apply, click on this link.

Teaching Professor
- Non-Tenured Teaching Professor who holds an MSW and doctoral degree interested in teaching on campus and who can effectively teach advanced clinical practice courses and collaborate on school social work training grants or projects. Wayne State University School of Social Work, accredited since 1945, is situated in the heart of Detroit’s Cultural and Historic District. The School’s status as part of the premier urban research institution in Michigan is also supported by the activities of our two Centers: 1) Center for Behavioral Health and Justice (CBHJ) and the 2) Center for Social Work Research (CSWR). CBHJ is currently home to multiple state, foundation, and federal grants focused on the intersection between behavioral health and the criminal/legal continuum. The goal is prevention of confinement through diversion and deflection. The CSWR supports faculty research, scholarship, community engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration on projects relevant to social work and social justice.
