Scholarships and Financial Aid
The 2019-2020 Private Scholarship Application is now available. These scholarships are designed to provide financial assistance to students enrolled in academic programs offered by the School of Social Work.
The 2019-2020 Social Work private scholarship deadline is March 1, 2019 at 12midnight.
To apply for a Social Work private scholarship(s), complete the online application here: 2018-2019 Scholarship Application.
All Social Work scholarship applicants must also complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or an Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) application. Completion of this information will be verified through the WSU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
Applicants applying for the Anna Katz Brenner, Carol Barron, Patricia L. Dillick, Rose Kaplan, Maldo E. Talick and/or Dean's Scholarship must upload an essay as part of their application. Applicants can apply for multiple scholarships, but must upload separate essays addressing the requirements for each individual scholarship.
Receipt of a scholarship award is contingent upon agreement that we may provide your name, a photo and general information regarding your qualifications for the award, to the scholarship donor. Additionally, you must agree to attend the Wayne State School of Social Work Scholarship Reception and must also send a thank you letter to the scholarship donor. A copy of the thank you letter must be provided to the Office of Admissions and Student Services. Failure to comply with the aforementioned will result in the rescinding of the scholarship award.

Elizabeth N. Brehler Scholars Program
The Manuscript Competition is open to any full or part-time Social Work Students; BSW, MSW, PhD or enrolled non-degree student attending the Wayne State University School of Social Work. The award to the author of a winning manuscript is $3,000. Important dates for this year are:
STEP 1: Registration Date - Friday, January 21, 2019, 12midnight EST: By this date and time, complete and submit STEP 1, the online competition Registration Form.
STEP 2: Manuscript Submission Date - Friday, March 1, 2019, 12midnight EST: By this date and time, complete and submit STEP 2, the online Manuscript Submission Form, which includes the uploading of the final manuscript submission. Please note that only the submission form should contain the author's identifying information, do not place your name on the manuscript submission document. All papers become the property of the School of Social Work.
The next steps will be:
Spring 2019: The School of Social Work Scholarship Committee will meet and determine the winning manuscript. All applicant/authors will be notified via email of the Committee's decision. The award recipient will be formally recognized and the award will be presented at the Dean's Graduation Luncheon at the end of the Winter semester.
